Open Brainstorms
Can you think of ways to introduce handicapping systems to sports?
For example - tennis. I'm playing against a much better player. How can I change the situation so that the better player is handicapped in some way so as to make the players equal thus resulting in a more competitive and enjoyable game? The tennis one is just an example. Would like to hear thoughts on any sport. I would like suggestions to look beyond the golf-type of handicapping where one player has a score penalty.

This idea is about individuals in football games rather than the whole team (I can relate to this - I had to go through my whole school life being useless at football): there could be 'exclusion zones' around weaker players. The player would have a set position around which the exclusion zone would operate. The player cannot leave the zone, but other players cannot enter the zone.
7.
Football: when the weaker team is awarded a free kick or throw-in, they could be allowed to progress ten metres before taking the kick or throw-in
5.
In tennis: (would require a little technology) the net height could change; when the ball is on the side of the court where the stronger player is, the net could increase in height.
4.
In football: the distance from the goal where players can shoot from could increase for the stronger team.
3.
In football: when one team is better than another, there could be 'no-go zones' for the better team - perhaps an area around the corners of the pitch?
2.
In darts: the better player could play with darts that get progressively shorter, or heavier
