What problems do you have with parcel services and how can they be solved (e.g. long waiting lines, lost packages)?

Sending and receiving packages is part of our daily life. However, many people face problems or are just unsatisfied with current parcel services. Here, we would like to brainstorm problems faced by people, and especially how to overcome these problems.

I had an idea similar to number 2 published on the Global Ideas Bank. The idea is that a representive in each street (probably an elderly person) acts as a street representitive and takes in the parcels for the street. For this they receive a fee.

Problem: Not at home when the package comes. Idea: Send an SMS about one hour before the post man is coming. Then I would be at home and would not have to go the long way to the post office (even to get a SMS with the exact date of delivery would be fantastic).

Problem: Long and boring waiting lines. Idea: Offer people to watch TV or give them small crossword puzzle. Then they would perceive the waiting time less long and their would not that much unsatisfied as they would without any things to do in the queue
