Look for the Ideal Final Result (this is a technique from TRIZ, but can be used without any others.) What is the benefit that you are trying to achieve? What is the cost of doing it now? What harmful side effects are generated? How could you achieve the benefit with NO cost or harm? Are you willing to work on that? Or do you want to work on an improvement (today's idea with more benefits or less cost or less harm?) Going all the way to the ideal stimulates lots of creativity. [about 16 years ago]
